*** Experimental, Humorous The Comedy-O-Rama draws characters that everyone can relate to, just turned up a notch for chuckles. The production is slick and story engaging.

*** Amusing, Humorous, Light-hearted I listened to Part One of this comedy special. The programs opens with daughter Lorie talking with Mom on the phone. Within two minutes, I was chuckling. When Mom mentions her "lard and sugar" sandwich that she put down somewhere, the producer had me. This visit to Camp Waterlogg with Ranger Joe and Ranger Lorie in the Catskills is delightfully funny, with characters that are goofy and cute. Good for light, summer listening.

Fireworks at Camp Waterlogg, parts 1 & 2 It's raining cats and dogs (and children) this Fourth of July and the Camp Waterlogg gang are trapped indoors recalling a holiday of the past. Along the way, there is also a Daws Butler parody placing George and Martha Washington in Edward Albee's Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf. That's the premise for this special edition of The Comedy-O-Rama Hour, Joe Bev and Lorie Kellogg's weekly radio theater show. The husband and wife team create a brand new hour of radio comedy every week, providing most of the character's voices, writing and improvising the story-lines and adding music and sound effects. This week's show also features Liquid Comedy's Cousin Kenny Savoy. Joe Bev attributes the positive response to his radio show as a sign today's audiences are "craving radio theater and the Internet is the best place to get it. The, with our free smartphone app, people can take us anywhere. Comedy-O-Rama Makes a long commute enjoyable!" Bev concludes: "We are creating a fully realized storyline every week, with continuing characters, sound effects, music, full production values... plus we're funny!" Bev, who performs nearly half the characters on the show, including Ellis da Boatkeeper, Sgt. Lefty, Adam Maxwell, Andy, and others. Lorie Kellogg also performs many characters on the show including Elise, Olive Pitts, Mrs. Cowlick, Ellis & Elise's mother, Lkie, Mrs. Terwilliger and others. |

Joe Bev and Lorie Kellogg |
It has been more than ten years since Kenny Savoy first visited Camp Waterlogg, the rustic Catskills home of Joe Bevilacqua and Lorie Kellogg, the husband and wife creative duo behind The Comedy-O-Rama Hour, many other audio productions.
Together, the three improvised the one hour "Fireworks at Camp Waterlogg" Special, which premiered on (Sirius) XM Radio on July 4, 2004. That first Camp Waterlogg special was a hit and has garnered houndreds of hours worth of Bevilacqua and Kellogg's unique brand of experimental improvisational sitcom comedy.
Even though, during his 42 year career, Bevilacqua has recorded hundreds of "traditional" scripted radio dramas in quiet studios and on stage before live audience, the veteran award-winning audio producer now often chooses to record outdoors, surrounded by his chickens, hiking his own trail, by the creek with his border collie Sophie, in the middle of the woods behind the couple's Napanoch, New York home, hanging upside down wearing gravity boots!
"I use a Sony IC portable audio recorder the size of my thumb that has two microphones and records 120 degrees," admits Bevilacqua he is radio theater in an entirely new way "making for a lush ultra stereo production that uses real life as it's backdrop."
Lorie Kellogg and Kenny Savoy |
During "A Camp Waterlogg Fourth of July Fundraiser," Sgt. Lefty (Joe Bev) mishears Ranger Joe and Ranger Lorie and thinks they might lose the camp to Uncle Goopie (in the past played by Ren & Stimpy's Bob Camp). Stinky Peter (Kenny Savoy) and Squeaky Lkie (Lorie Kellogg) help Ellis da Boatkeeper (Joe Bev), Andy (Joe Bev), Woody (Joe Bev), Elise, and Mrs. Terwilliger (Lorie Kellogg).
Meanwhile, Adam Maxwell is hiding in tree trunks and under beds, attempting to allude Gary Cant and Cary Gooper, two United States Homeland Security officers, and Ranger Joe hangs upside down trying to make himself taller (all voiced by Joe Bev).

"My two characters really interact a lot in this week's show, so I did a lot of talking to myself!" laughs Bevilacqua, who maps out the plot of each hour and improvises the dialogue, not from a studio but in the real world, including the woods of Napanoch, NY.
"I even cooked beans over my kitchen stove while we recorded this week's story. When we were finished we had both a new hour radio situation comedy AND a pot of cooked beans!"
