The Comedy-O-Rama Hour
Bob Newhart Special
Camp Waterlogg Says "Hi, Bob!"

"Laughter gives us distance. It allows us to step back from an event, deal with it and then move on." -- Bob Newhart

Iconic Comedian Bob Newhart is the center of attention at Camp Waterlogg, the fictional kids set camp deep in the bucolic woods of Napanoch, New York. It is, in reality, the rustic home of radio personalities Joe Bevilacqua (Joe Bev) and the Lorie Kellogg.

It is all part of the next Comedy-O-Rama Hour, a show that began on XM Radio and has since spread around the world, via public radio, streaming stations and podcasts.

This week's show, entitled: Camp Waterlogg Says, "H, Bob!" has everyone at the camp buying scalped tickets to see Bob Newhart, sold by Sal Pilvers (Joe Bev). Ranger Joe and Ranger Lorie are expecting to interview Bob before his May 16 performance at the Paramount Hudson Valley Theater in Peekskill, NY.

The weekly hour is produced by veteran radio theater producer Joe Bevilacqua (Joe Bev). Bevilacqua maps out the plot of each hour and he and his cast improvise the dialogue and action, not from a studio but in the real world, including the woods of Napanoch, NY.

The Comedy-O-Rama is story and character driven improvisation--recorded in and around their Napanoch, NY house in the woods--that goes beyond sketch comedy to blossom into full fledged radio theater. Husband and wife creative team Joe Bev and Lorie Kellogg created the series for XM Radio in 2002. 124 shows and 13 years later, the series is heard weekly on public radio stations nationwide, streamed on the web at bearmanorradio.com, and podcast anytime all over the Internet, including waterlogg.com.

"Our characters really interact a lot in this week's show, so we did a lot of talking to ourselves!" laughs Bevilacqua, who maps out the plot of each hour and improvises the dialogue, not from a studio but in the real world, including the woods of Napanoch, NY.

Joe and Lorie improvised the entire hour around the classic Newhart, as Likie, Mrs. Terwilliger, Olive Pitts, and Elise (all voiced by Lorie Kellogg) and Andy, Woody, Adam Maxwell, Ellis da Boatkeeper (all Joe Bev) recalling their favorite classic Bob Newhart comedy album routines, which are also heard during the hour.

Some of Joe Bev's character voices are inspired by Newhart contemporaries Don Adams, Phil Silvers, Jackie Gleason, and Jonathan Winters.

The couple create this surreal improvisational sitcom every week, and their real life two

dogs, Sophie and Patsy, and 24 chickens permeate the background and play key roles in this week's plot.

Joe Bevilacqua, also known as Joe Bev, is primarily known as a radio theater dramatist, but his career has taken him into every aspect of show business, including stage, film, and television, as a producer, director, writer, actor, and even cartoonist. In 1971 his father bought him a cassette recorder, on which he created his first audio story, Willoughby and the Professor, acting all the voices himself at the age of twelve. In 1975 Daws Butler, the voice of Yogi Bear and many other Hanna-Barbera and Jay Ward cartoon characters, dubbed himself Bevilacqua’s personal mentor after hearing a 120-minute cassette of Willoughby improvisations. Since 1980 Bevilacqua has produced many award-winning radio programs for National Public Radio, Sirius-XM Satellite Radio, and others.
