The Art of Audio #1: "Did you hear THAT?"
My dad bought me a Panasonic cassette recorder in 1971, I was 12 years old.

It was the beginning of summer. June. Last day of school. The smell of cut grass as a walk up our driveway. Clear blue sky. Sun on my face and arms. Dad trimming a bush in front of our house.

I remember the day so well because it was the day my future was set. I soon became an audio artist.
I had been drawing a series of silly nine panel cartoons of Willaby and the Professor, as I called them then. Hundreds of pages. Serialized. In Hanna-Barbera style. Ring around the mouth.

Now I had a way to record their voices!
Men, women, young, old, babies, dogs, cats, otters, every accent on the planet poured out of my mouth.

Within a few years, I was on the radio. Reel to reel. Stereo. Digital. 3-D.

Today my work is enjoyed around the world. That makes me happy!

"Cult Radio A-Go-Go! Live ; a.k.a CRAGG Live; is a four hour live call in show every Saturday from 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm pacific. Our show is available on the internet internationally as well as in local syndicated markets around the country. We've reached listeners as close as LA (our biggest market) and as far as Iraq, Europe, and Australia. The radio show garners approximately 500,000 to 900,000 listeners on average per month (just via our broadcast and not counting our syndicates) as we are available locally and also in international online media markets including Shoutcast Radio, Terra Radio, Chumby Radio Networks, Live365 Radio, on select cell phones, Stickam networks, and various other syndicates. Fred's comments:
On the ringtones: When Ben approached me with the idea of doing my father's voices for ring tones, I just couldn't turn it down. It seems a lot of people still want to hearthose familiar characters enough to carry them around on their mobile devices. We'll probably do more them in the future.
Ben's comments:
Ringtones: I've been a Huge fan of comedy all my life, and was intrigued, browsing around amazon, that there were companies doing whole comedy ringtone albums. Obviously, a ringtone isn't just music! Also, way back, I had the Monty Python's Complete Waste of Time game, which included a trillion sound bytes you could use for computer sounds. Plus answering machine messages. So I thought, why not do an album of funny voices for a plethora of uses. The trouble was, we came up with enough for 3 albums' worth! We'll do a 3rd one soon.
